Seven Trumpets

This week we celebrated the Feast of Trumpets, which occurs on the 1st day of the 7th month of the biblical calendar (Leviticus 23).  The number "7" and the blowing of trumpets are connected.  There were 7 days in circling the walls of Jericho, and 7 angelic trumpets in the Book of Revelation.

Revelation 8:2 – I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and to them were given seven trumpets.

The 7 trumpets in heaven fulfill the meaning of the day of trumpets in the 7th month.  The Torah instructs us to perform a priestly or ceremonial action; the book of Revelation describes the prophetic fulfillment of that ceremony.  Blowing a trumpet is a metaphor for proclaiming prophetic revelation. (Sounding a shofar without the correct message may just be blowing a lot of hot air.)

As the trumpet is blown in heaven, angels are mobilized into action, prophetic revelation is released, and history is changed.  What we bind and loose on earth will be bound and loosed in heaven (Matthew 18).  When we blow the trumpets with true Scriptural understanding, the angels correspond with blowing trumpets in heaven. 

Revelation 10:7 – In the days of the sounding of the seventh angel…, the mystery of God will be finished, as He declared to His servants the prophets.

God has a plan for the redemption of the human race. That plan is written in the Scriptures; but because it is revealed to us progressively, parts of it still remain a mystery.  Each stage of the plan is revealed when the time comes to prepare for that stage to be fulfilled.

In our day, the international Christian church is receiving prophetic understanding of the book of Revelation.  At the same time shofars are being sounded in Jewish synagogues according to the priestly commandment. It is our job as the Messianic remnant to make the connection between the two (the priestly and the prophetic).

Revelation 11:15 – Then the seventh angel sounded; and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, "The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Messiah, and He shall reign forever and ever."

So what is the final stage of the mystery plan of God?  - That all the governments on this earth will ultimately be taken over by the Messiah's kingdom of righteousness, peace, and joy.  But until that time, spiritual warfare will become increasingly intense both in heaven and on earth.

The sounding of the trumpets on the day of trumpets in the 7th month is to warn the people of God of the trumpet judgments of the book of Revelation, and to prepare us to stand in victory in the spiritual warfare of the end times.   

For Rosh Hashanah (New Year, according to Jewish tradition), the Israeli Office of Statistics announced that the total population has reached 8,081,000 people, which is ten times the 800,000 here at the founding of the state in 1948.  The number of Jews within that total for the first time crossed six million, with the obvious emotional significance that the number of Jews now living in Israel has equaled the number murdered in the Holocaust.

The Israeli army has recently set up a field clinic in the Golan Heights near the border of Syria to treat seriously wounded Syrians. So far over 300 have received care. Some are sent to hospitals within Israel for further treatment while most return to Syria.

Word is spreading within Syria of the medical care received, and more wounded are being brought.  Colonel Itsik Kreis, director of the clinic, said, "We treat all wounded whether soldier, rebel or citizen. They were raised to see us as monsters. Suddenly they find human beings on the other side."

Egyptian military spokesmen have reported the establishment of a security zone by bulldozing a 500 meter strip along the 11 kilometer border between Egypt and Gaza. Since the formation of the new government coalition, Hamas terrorists have come through the tunnels to increase terrorist activity in Egypt.  Hopefully this new security zone will increase stability and peace in the Northern Sinai area.
