The Lord's Prayer

I usually pray this before sunrise on the roof of our apartment building in the hills of Judea, overlooking the whole countryside, from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv.  

Our Father in Heaven – everything starts with reconnecting and reaffirming our personal relationship with God.  This moment of addressing God in such intimacy as a Father/Dad was a breakthrough in the history of faith and religion, beyond what was previously experienced by Moses, David and the Prophets.

Hallowed be Your Name – what we do on this earth can either give honor and glory to God, or cause Him embarrassment and repulsion. We should ask ourselves in each situation whether our reaction will cause others to honor God or despise Him. 

Your Kingdom Come – we are here not only to "get saved, get blessed, get raptured;" but to take part in God's great plan to change the world.  Our lives have purpose. The kingdom has an origin-heaven; a direction-downward; and a destination-earth.

Your Will be Done – there is something that God wants. We have the choice to do what He wants or to do what He does not want.  We pray to know what He wants us to do, and to decide to do it.  No excuses.

Give us our Daily Bread – before other prayers, God knows we need basic physical provision.  For those of us whose work also provides for  other people, we can add the phrase, "And all the daily manna as well."

Forgive our Sins as we Forgive Others – the first step to any solution is for us to repent: to recognize our own wrongdoing; to stop; to change.  The second step is to get un-forgiveness and resentment out of our hearts.

Lead us not into Temptation – repentance deals with our sinful actions. This prayer deals with our inclination toward sin on the inside; not just the sin but the temptation to it.  God wants to change our attitudes as well as our actions.

Deliver us from Evil – after all the steps above, we can have victory over the forces of evil in the world around us.

My friend Penina is a tour-guide, who now ends her tours with a visit to our center.  Last month she brought 18 women from Tel Aviv.  One of them was a Bible teacher.  When I talked about Yeshua and how often He is mentioned in prophecy, she said that she has been teaching the Bible in Hebrew all these years, but never saw where it is written about the Messiah or that the Messiah must die.   When I shared from the book of Daniel and several other verses, they were amazed.

Recently, we received a group of managers from the Electric Company. We ate together and I shared my testimony.  I talked about how people look to please others and want others to think good about them.   With believers, this is not so because we look to please God and not man.  One of them, who was an atheist, told me that only weak people need to believe in God.  However, most of them want to come back and bring their friends and family.

A group of students and their friends came to our house.  Half of them were wearing kippas (yarmulkes).   They discussed the upcoming Days of Awe where observant Jews do not eat meat, leading up to the day of Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement).  I said that God was not as much interested in our not eating but rather that we stop sinning.   Isaiah 58:4   “You cannot fast as you do today and expect your voice to be heard on high.”And Isaiah 59:2: “ But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He does not hear.”

My current medical situation has had a very positive impact on the day to day functioning of the congregation. The young leaders in whom we invested many years of our lives are taking new responsibility upon themselves. The timing was not our plan but we praise God for the fruitfulness and advancement that we are witnessing. We also praise God for the “tidal wave” of love that we have seen sweep the congregation in response to our present trial.

Once again the meeting last Shabbat was amazing. The growth is not just in numbers but in an increase of anointing in worship, in the Word and in the gifts of the spirit. We believe that our congregation has a mighty destiny and is being prepared to be an end time congregation in the midst of Jerusalem – with signs and wonders evident – bringing in the harvest and hastening the return of the Lord .
 
This week we celebrated the Jewish New Year (the Feast of Trumpets). This wonderful New Moon holiday marks the beginning of the High Holy Days. The ten days between this Feast and Yom Kippur are known as the Days of Awe. During this period many Jews in Israel and throughout the world stop to both repent and consider their stand before God .

On Yom Kippur we will be participating with four other congregations in a 24 hour time of prayer and fasting. Together we will cry out for a fresh touch of God's mercy and love for His Body in the coming year. We will also invest hours interceding for the salvation of God's beloved Israel, in addition to interceding for the chaotic situation in the Middle East and throughout the world.
